Start Your Bookkeeping Business with Less Stress
Posted by: admin Post date: September 15th, 2009There are really a lot of stressful things that can come your way when you start a bookkeeping business. All the planning, organizing, training and others issues can make you feel pressured.
The anxiety of having problem clients adds to that, so its better to deal with this possibility now so you’re prepared. There are ways to address this problem and be proactive. The first thing that you should do is to identify the traits of a client that you want to avoid. Meaning, you need to find ways in how to avoid a bad client.
Next you should make sure you look for clients that are sent to you by referral. These tend to be higher caliber clients (unless they’re being referred by a fellow bookkeeper, in which case you need to ask why they’re being referred before you take them on.) People who are referred tend to be more reliable and pay them bills on time.
The next thing is to make sure that your written contract with your client is as clear as possible. Set down the limits of your bookkeeping engagement so that you’re both clear on what your duties will be and in what time frame they will be completed. Also, make sure to state the agreed upon rates you’ll be charging and your payment terms.
A positive outlook is also a good defense against bad clients. Don’t let them ruin your day. Your attitude will determine which is bad or good so its better choose the one that best benefits you. Choose the attitude that avoids the amount of least stress as you start your bookkeeping business.
