How to Find Bookkeeping Clients
Posted by: admin Post date: May 20th, 2010There must be some reason why some freelance bookkeeping businesses do better than others. If two equally skilled bookkeepers compete in the same market, why does one seem to have no problem getting work, when the other has no idea how to find bookkeeping clients?
Finding clients is not something that is done occasionally using an ad-hoc shotgun approach, it must be done on an ongoing basis and you need to have a solid plan in place.
First of all you must decide who your target market is. Do you want to do bookkeeping for retail stores, contractors or service-type businesses? Each business type requires slightly different skills, so you must match your abilities and strengths to the types of businesses you prefer working with.
Then you need to decide on your budget for promoting your business, as marketing methods vary in their costs. For example sending out a sales letter will obviously cost you more than networking at a local business function sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Some methods require more time and energy, than money.
Make sure you take time each week to do at least one promotional campaign so that your message is continually being seen by potential clients. This doesn’t mean that you should just stick with only one marketing method. Far from it. It means using online and offline marketing methods as you must make sure you diversify your approach to improve the chances of a potential client finding and subsequently hiring you.
Finding clients is an ongoing process that, if you stick with it, will reward you with a successful bookkeeping business for years to come.
